Als zusätzliche Funktionalität bieten die Canon Multifunktionsgeräte die Möglichkeit, Dokumente, Schriftstücke, Bilder etc. einzuscannen. Eine vorherige Authentifizierung am Gerät mittels Zutrittsmedium ist hierfür erforderlich.

Analog zu Ausdrucken kann dabei die Farbtiefe (schwarz/weiß, Graustufen, Farbe) und die Auflösung in dpi zuvor vom Benutzer festgelegt werden. Auch das Ausgabeformat ist nicht fixiert: JPEG, TIFF, PDF, XPS sowie OOXML stehen zur Auswahl. Das Format PDF bietet zusätzlich die Wahl zwischen "Kompakt" und "OCR". Bei " PDF-OCR" wird der im Dokument eingebettete Text in der Ausgabedatei abgespeichert. Somit ist die Datei textuell durchsuchbar.

Abhängig davon ob man nach erfolgreicher Authentifizierung "Scannen und Senden" oder "Scannen und Speichern" gewählt hat, wird anschließend das fertig gescannte Dokument entweder an eine E-Mail-Adresse (kann auch die eigene sein) versandt oder auf einem externen Datenträger (USB-Stick, USB Festplatte) abgespeichert.

As additional functionality, Canon multifunctional devices offer the possibility to scan documents, pictures, etc. Prior authentication on the device using an access medium is required for this.

The color depth (black / white, gray scale, color) and the resolution in dpi can be defined by the user before printing. Furthermore, the output format is not fixed either: JPEG, TIFF, PDF, XPS and OOXML are available options. The PDF format also offers the choice between "compact" and "OCR". For "PDF-OCR", the text embedded in the document is stored in the output file. Thus, the file is textually searchable.

Depending on whether you chose "Scan and send" or "Scan and save" after successful authentication, the document you have scanned is either sent to an email address (can also be your own) or stored on an external data carrier (USB flash drive, USB hard drive).
